DAVE RUDER

8/25/08, 11:06 PM -

Got some new look going on around here. Hope to serve you with more improvements as the future unfolds into the present. And as I learn minimally flashier html, improving on what little I know. But progress!

Here's a song about a tree shrew that I wrote myself and recorded and all that business. What else? There was a nice Trouble show last week, forgot to plug that. I've just had three weeks of vacation, which included a jaunt to that fine Canadian city "The Hammer" and a lot of musicing hours. Bought a drum machine, cooked some okra. Progress!

July the 27th, 2008.

Two new Trouble recordings, "ah" and "Alter Cocker". Dave K and I will both be taking part in some musical activity in Westchester County, NY on 8/8/08, check out the shows page for some more info. Should be a fun time.

I've got some free time coming up, and I'm excited about that. Also, working on some music for solo harp, just for kicks. I think listening to the Cage/Feldman WBAI recordings is a little like listening to a long-term couple discuss their lives, very intimate in a way that surprised me because more and more I think of how they're more different than similar...

I'm happy about it: finally a recorded record of Untuned for 10 untuned guitars. This was recorded a few weeks back and I've been sitting on it. The recording has got it's share of farts and crackles, which is not ideal, but you can certainly get the idea. We also did a Tuned version (cleverly, I'm calling it Tuned) and here's a pared-down version of the original, cutting out most of the first section. I'm interested in feedback if you've got any, or if you know how to take the farts and crackles go away.

Recently, I finished the a piece of music "And It's Surely To Their Debit, Part 2e", which was the final piece in a series of six trios for three clarinets. I'm very satisfied, and it's very hard to play. Some day soon.

Haven't said too much about the Ensemble One shows that have been happening every month in Greenpoint (next one is August 1st at 8 PM, see shows). These have been immensely satisfying; in addition to playing a piece I wrote this past time (involving slow, sparse, overlapping loops), we played a piece by Andrew Lafkas that to me involves some very heroic actions on the part of string players - holding long tones for 20 minutes at a time to sparse accompaniment. You should come next time, check it out, very beautiful stuff.

I also had the pleasure of creating a mango lime cake this weekend, and that was the bee's knees.

May 26th, 2008:

This is a thing about nectars, tension, and other things. I guess you could call it a comic, although it might not be that funny. I made it though.

Next week: in Pittsburgh with Dave Kadden to play at the National Aviary and maybe another show with Anthony Braxton. Very exciting to return to the turf on which I was born.
